Decay

Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 14, 2026
Last updated: August 14, 2026

Decay is designed to keep your garden private. There is no Decay account and no cloud database containing your intentions.

The intentions, chapters, notes, tending history, specimens, and other content you create in Decay are stored on your device. We do not receive or read that content.

We do not sell your personal information, use it for advertising, or track you across other apps or websites.

This policy explains the limited information that does leave your device and why.

1. Information stored on your device

Decay stores your garden locally on your device. This may include:

This content is not uploaded to Decay servers because Decay does not operate a cloud database for your garden.

Because we do not have a copy of this information, we cannot view or recover it for you.

If you delete the app, reset or lose your device, or otherwise remove its local data, your garden may be permanently lost. Your device's own backup service, such as iCloud Backup or Android backup, may separately back up app data according to Apple or Google's policies.

2. Information we process

Decay uses a small number of third-party services to operate subscriptions, understand basic app usage, and diagnose technical problems.

None of these services is intended to receive the text of your intentions, chapters, notes, or other content you write in Decay.

Subscriptions

Purchases and subscriptions are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Decay uses RevenueCat to determine whether a subscription or trial is active and to support purchase restoration.

RevenueCat may process information such as:

We do not receive your payment card number or other payment credentials.

RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at: revenuecat.com/privacy

Product analytics

Decay uses PostHog for limited product analytics.

We use it to understand things such as whether onboarding was completed, whether certain app features are being used, and whether actions such as purchases or restores succeed or fail.

Analytics may include:

We do not intentionally send PostHog:

Session recording is disabled.

PostHog's privacy policy is available at: posthog.com/privacy

Crash and error diagnostics

Decay uses Sentry to identify crashes and technical errors.

Diagnostic reports may include:

Decay is configured so that user-entered intention names, chapter names, notes, and other written garden content are not intentionally included in these reports.

Sentry's privacy policy is available at: sentry.io/privacy

3. Notifications

Decay uses local notifications that are scheduled on your device.

If you enable notifications, Decay may use them for reminders such as notifying you before a trial ends. You can decline notification permission or turn notifications off at any time through your device settings.

Decay does not currently operate a server-based push notification system for these reminders.

4. Widgets and sharing

Decay may allow you to display a specimen or intention on a Home Screen or Lock Screen widget. Widget information is read from data already stored on your device.

Keep in mind that information shown on a widget may be visible to anyone who can see your screen. Decay provides settings that let you limit what the widget displays.

When you create or share a herbarium plate, the image is generated on your device. If you choose to share it, your device's share sheet lets you select another app or service.

Once you share content with another service, that service handles the information according to its own privacy practices.

5. Data retention and deletion

Your garden remains on your device until you delete individual content, remove the app, or the app removes information as part of its normal functionality.

Information processed by RevenueCat, PostHog, and Sentry is retained according to their applicable settings, agreements, and privacy policies.

Because Decay does not maintain an account tied to your name or email address, we may not be able to identify or locate analytics or diagnostic records associated with a particular person.

You may contact us with a privacy request, and we will respond as required by applicable law.

6. Children

Decay is not designed or intended for children under 13.

We do not knowingly collect user-entered personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us through a service described in this policy, please contact us.

7. Advertising and tracking

Decay does not contain advertising SDKs.

We do not sell personal information, share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use your information to track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.

Decay does not use the advertising identifier for advertising or tracking.

8. Security

We take reasonable steps to limit the information Decay sends off your device and to protect information handled by the services we use.

Your garden itself is stored locally and is also protected by the security of your device. You should keep your device software up to date and use available protections such as a passcode, Face ID, Touch ID, or other device security features.

No method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

9. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, applicable law may give you rights regarding personal information, such as rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or objection.

Decay does not require an account and does not collect your name or email address through the app. As a result, we may sometimes be unable to associate technical records with you.

Your locally stored garden can be managed directly within the app or removed by deleting the app and its local data.

For subscription records, Apple and Google provide tools for managing subscriptions through your store account.

To make a privacy request, contact us at the email address below.

10. Third-party services

Decay currently relies on the following third-party services:

These companies process information under their own privacy policies and applicable agreements.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy if Decay's features or data practices change.

When we make changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above. If a change materially affects how Decay handles your information, we may also provide notice in the app or through release notes.
