Decay
Terms of Use
Effective date: 14 August 2026
Last updated: 14 August 2026
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the Decay mobile application and its widgets (the “App”).
By downloading, subscribing to, or using Decay, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
1. About Decay
Decay is a private intention garden. You can record things you mean to do, and each intention becomes a botanical specimen whose appearance changes over time. You can tend specimens, press them into your archive, or return them to seed.
Decay is intended as a reflective personal tool. It is not:
- medical, psychological, or mental-health advice, treatment, or diagnosis;
- professional, financial, legal, or other specialist advice;
- a productivity guarantee or coaching service; or
- a reminder system that should be relied on for important or time-sensitive obligations.
Do not rely on Decay for medication, medical care, legal deadlines, financial obligations, appointments, emergencies, or anything else where a missed intention could cause harm or significant loss.
Decay is not intended to replace professional medical or mental-health care.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Decay.
If you are under the age at which you may enter into a binding agreement where you live, you may use the App only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian.
3. No Account and Local Storage
Decay does not require an account, username, or password.
Your garden content — including your intentions, chapter names, observations, and tending history — is stored locally on your device. Decay does not provide its own cloud backup or synchronization service, and we do not have access to or the ability to recover that content.
If you delete the App, reset or lose your device, experience device or storage failure, or otherwise lose the locally stored App data, your garden may be permanently lost.
Your operating system or device backup may preserve App data depending on your device settings and platform behavior, but we do not control or guarantee those backups.
Pressed specimens may also be automatically and permanently removed from The Press after the retention period shown or described in the App. Where applicable, this is intended App behavior rather than a storage fault.
You are responsible for keeping any separate copy of content you consider important.
4. Subscriptions, Trials, and Billing
Some or all features of Decay may require an active subscription or valid free trial. The plans, prices, billing periods, trial terms, and included access available to you are shown in the App before purchase.
Subscriptions and payments are processed by the platform through which you obtained the App, such as the Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not directly collect or store your payment card information.
Unless cancelled before renewal in accordance with the terms presented by Apple or Google, subscriptions automatically renew. The applicable store account will be charged according to the subscription terms shown at the time of purchase or renewal.
You can manage or cancel your subscription through your Apple App Store or Google Play subscription settings. Deleting Decay does not cancel your subscription.
Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their applicable policies and any rights you may have under applicable consumer law.
Because Decay does not use its own user accounts, subscription access is associated with your Apple or Google store account. If you reinstall the App or change devices, you may need to use Restore Purchase while signed in to the store account used for the original purchase.
If your subscription expires or is cancelled, access to subscription features may be restricted. Locally stored garden data is not intentionally deleted merely because your subscription ends, except for normal App behavior such as any disclosed automatic retention or clearing rules.
5. Your Content
The content you create in Decay is yours. We do not claim ownership of your intentions, chapter names, observations, tending history, or other personal garden content.
You are responsible for the content you create and for ensuring that your use of Decay complies with applicable law.
Share cards, herbarium plates, or other exports generated using your own garden content may be shared by you for personal use, including posting them on social media.
6. Decay's Content and Intellectual Property
The App, including its software, botanical artwork, illustrations, stage artwork, visual design, written copy, branding, interface elements, and other materials provided by us, is owned by us or our licensors and may be protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual-property laws.
We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use Decay in accordance with these Terms and the rules of the platform from which you obtained the App.
You may not, except where applicable law permits it:
- copy, extract, reproduce, sell, redistribute, or commercially exploit Decay's software or original assets;
- reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive the source code of the App;
- bypass or interfere with subscription, entitlement, security, or access controls; or
- use the App in a way that disrupts, damages, or interferes with its operation.
These restrictions do not prevent you from using sharing and export features intentionally provided within Decay.
7. Third-Party Services
Decay may use third-party services to operate parts of the App, including:
- Apple App Store and Google Play for distribution, subscriptions, and payments;
- RevenueCat for subscription entitlement management;
- PostHog for product analytics; and
- Sentry for crash and error reporting.
Those services may process limited technical or transactional information under their own terms and privacy policies.
More information about the information Decay and these services process is available in our Privacy Policy.
8. App Availability and Disclaimer
We work to keep Decay functioning reliably, but software can fail.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Decay is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not guarantee that the App will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every device or operating-system version.
We do not guarantee that specimen vitality calculations, animations, notifications, subscription checks, data storage, or other App functions will always operate without error.
Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties, guarantees, remedies, or other rights that cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable consumer law.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from your use of Decay, including loss of data, loss of your garden, loss of an intention or observation recorded in the App, loss of profits, or loss of anticipated savings.
Where applicable law allows us to limit our total liability, our aggregate liability arising from Decay or these Terms will not exceed the greater of:
- the amount you paid for Decay during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim; or
- USD $50.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer-protection law.
10. Changes to Decay or These Terms
We may add, change, or remove features from Decay over time, and we may discontinue the App.
We may also update these Terms. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above. If a change is material, we may provide additional notice in the App, through release notes, or by another reasonable method.
Your continued use of Decay after updated Terms take effect means you agree to the revised Terms. If you do not agree, you should stop using the App and cancel any active subscription.
11. App Store Terms
If you download Decay through the Apple App Store or Google Play, your use of the App is also subject to the applicable store's terms and usage rules.
Purchases, subscription management, billing, and refunds are handled by the applicable store under its terms.
Where Apple provides its standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement for apps distributed through the App Store, that agreement also applies as provided by Apple.
12. General
These Terms and our Privacy Policy describe the agreement between you and us regarding your use of Decay.
If any part of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect.
Our failure to enforce a provision of these Terms does not waive our right to enforce it later.
Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under mandatory consumer-protection laws that apply where you live.
